After the organic compounds in the potassium dichromate ion oxidation solution are oxidized, the color of the solution changes. Within the measuring range of the instrument, the degree of color change is directly proportional to the concentration of COD in the sample. Therefore, by measuring the extent of color change using spectrophotometry, the COD concentration in the sample can be calculated.
